Slow Burn

You watched me flow until you forgot to breathe

You stayed on the bench by the window, so I started moving slower on purpose.

Zen in an open white shirt under wooden roof beams, looking straight into the camera.

The last class of the day ends at seven, and the room takes a while to let go of it. Mats get rolled, the door swings twice, someone laughs out in the corridor, and then the building drops into that particular silence old wooden roofs have. I stay. I always stay. The hour after everyone leaves is the only one I keep entirely for myself.

Except you did not leave. You got as far as the bench by the window, sat down with your bag still on your shoulder like you were about to, and then you simply did not.

The hour after the studio empties out

I did not turn the big lights back on. There is one lamp in the corner that throws everything long and warm across the floorboards, and at that hour the beams overhead catch it and go the colour of honey. I took my shirt off the hook and did not put it on. Dropped it over the rail instead. Then I stood at the top of my mat and let my hands hang.

You were maybe four metres away. Close enough that I could hear it when your breathing changed. Far enough that you thought I could not.

The first thing I do is nothing at all. I stand there and I wait until the day falls off me. Most men find that part unbearable to sit through. You did not move once.

What you see when a man moves slow on purpose

Then I started. Not a class flow, nothing counted out, no cues for anybody. Just the way I move when there is nobody to teach. Hands up, spine long, fold. Slow enough that you can see every single thing happening under the skin, because that is the entire point of going slow. Fast hides a body. Slow shows all of it. The shift in the shoulder, the line down the side of the ribs, the way a breath moves the stomach before it ever reaches the chest.

I held the fold longer than I needed to. Then down, one leg back, hips low, chest open, head up. Held that too. You could hear the floorboard flex under my hand in the quiet.

Eight years on the mat and I still find something new in an hour alone. But I will be honest with you about that evening. I was not finding anything new. I was moving for you, and I had been from the second I heard you sit down.

The moment I know you are watching me

There is a difference between being looked at and being watched, and I can tell which one it is with my eyes shut. Looking is quick and it moves on. Watching has weight to it. Watching goes still.

Yours went still around the third time I came up off the floor. I felt it land across my back and stay there, and my body knew it before my head did. I did not look over. I did not need to. I just let the next breath out slower than the last one, and I heard yours follow it without you ever deciding to.

That is the part nobody warns you about. Put two men in a room and let one of them set the pace, and the other one takes it. Every time. You were already running on my rhythm and you had not so much as touched me yet.

When the calm turns deliberate

Here is what men get wrong about me. They see the slow, they hear the word yoga, and they build a soft harmless little picture in their heads. Quiet guy. Gentle guy. Easy company.

I am quiet because I am not unsure about anything. That is a very different animal. When I want something I do not circle it, I do not hint at it, and I do not sit around waiting to be told it is allowed. I go and I take it, and the only reason it looks unhurried is that I am never once in doubt about getting there.

So I stopped mid flow. Just stopped, upright, and turned my head and looked straight at you for the first time all evening. You went from watching to caught in about half a second, and the temperature of the whole room changed with it.

I did not say a word. I lifted two fingers off my thigh and tipped my chin at the empty mat next to mine. That was all of it. That was the entire invitation and you knew exactly what it meant.

How close I decided to let you get

You put the bag down. It took you longer to cross those four metres than it takes me to run a full flow, and I liked that. I liked watching you decide.

Then you were on the mat beside me, standing, not knowing what to do with your hands, and I stepped in behind you and gave you the only instruction of the night. Breathe when I breathe.

Palm flat between your shoulder blades. Not pushing, just there, so you could feel where the air was supposed to go. My other hand low on your ribs. Four counts in. Hold it. Six out. Again. Your shoulders came down on the second round and something else gave on the fourth, and by then you were leaning back into my hand instead of holding yourself away from it.

I kept you there a long time. Longer than you wanted. That was deliberate too.

What the rest of that evening turned into

The lamp in the corner runs on a timer and it clicked off somewhere in the middle of it. Neither of us went to fix it. Streetlight through the high window, the beams overhead gone from honey to grey, your breath and mine on the same count and both of them a great deal closer together than they had been an hour before.

I brought my mouth near your ear and said nothing for a while. Just let you feel that I was there. When a man has been holding his breath for an hour, the moment you hand it back to him does something that no amount of talking ever could.

You turned around. Of course you turned around. They always turn around, and I always let them believe it was their own idea.

What came after that is not going on a page Google can read. But I will give you the shape of it. The slow was never the end of me. The slow is the door. Behind it I am hungry, I am heavy handed when I feel like it, and I do not stop at the point where you would have stopped. Men work that out about ten minutes in, and then they spend a long time afterwards trying to explain to themselves how the quiet one turned out to be that.

The studio is locked now, the mats are stacked, and I am still thinking about the sound you made when I finally let you breathe on your own. There is more of me, unfiltered, on OnlyFans. Come and find out what the slow was hiding.
